Long Awaited

Nova Scotia has been abuzz with the news that there will be a form of electronic keno introduced to bars and restaurants. The government says it will bring in revenue...but at what cost? The game has a daily cap (ONLY $1200 a day) and players can ONLY lose $8,000 a week. Only, huh? I don't know many people with enough disposable cash to lose eight grand a week and still be okay. What compounds the issue is it's a game that allows players to play every five-ten minutes. Cover that over an 11 hour period and gamblers will still lose a ton of money...and in this day of recession, it's just one more thing that people can fall victim to.

What is wrong with Pittsburgh? Easy...look in goal. The Pens' offense has never been in question. Their goaltending is in shambles. Fleury is not a #1 goalie. They won't go far as they stand now.

That's all folks! See you next time.

Friday the 13th?

I had the entertaining or dubious (take your pick) distinction of watching the new Friday the 13th remake last Saturday. As far as Friday movies go, this one was one of the best, but if you're going to be wowed by some cinematic masterpiece, don't choose this movie. If, however, you're looking to be entertained for an hour or two, this movie provides some genuinely spooky moments and some cheesy scares. The gore isn't over the top, and as bad as this may sound, there were some pretty unique kill scenes. Jason is back, folks, love him or hate him.

I read in the news today about a 13 year old boy who became a father. What is this world coming to? There is no way a 13 year old should be a dad. Just because the piping and plumbing are installed in the building, doesn't make it ready to occupy! If people would just follow God's Laws for sexuality, abortions, STIs, HIV, and unwanted children would be eliminated. This is a prime example of what disregarding God's laws for purity has brought upon us.

That's all for now. Have a great day folks, and God bless!

Bored Cops and Ball Hockey

I know police are paid to perform a certain job; however, I do think there comes a time that they just must be downright bored. For those who don't know, I was detained last night for playing ball hockey...I was locking the gym, and drove down the road as a police car pulled in and then started following me...then he pulled me over. So Emily, myself, and my friend Aaron sat in the car for five minutes while he sat in his, waiting for another police car to pull up. Here we sit, on the side of the road in good old Berwick, with two cars with lights flashing are surrounding us. Finally we're approached...keep in mind, there are no less than six hockey sticks in the backseat and goalie gear in the trunk. They ran my plates, my license, and insurance. Of course, all were clean or I wouldn't be sitting here blogging at the moment. They then wanted to know what school I was enrolled in, so that made a difference. Finally, I was able to answer all their questions with confidence and no hesitation, so after about ten-fifteen minutes they finally let us go. All in all, at 11:30 at night, tired and bruised from playing two and a half hours straight of hockey, I was none too impressed. It seemed a little excessive for what they thought I was doing...robbing a gym. They also searched the bag of beverage bottles and found, much to their horror (and my amusement), Gatorade, apple juice, two bottles of Dasani mineral water, and two bags of chocolate Easter eggs. Quite the dangerous combination.

All things considered, I guess I can't complain...while they did detain me, they really weren't rude or aggressive. It struck me as a quiet night in the land of Berwick Police, and in the end, made for a good laugh.

The Montreal Canadiens are falling fast. For a team celebrating its 100th year, they look like they were just born. With a team with that kind of talent (on paper) they should be challenging for the conference lead.

That's all for me today, everyone...sitting in school waiting for class to start, so I'll check back soon!

Blog-Crazy!!!!

Okay, now that I have found this new sensation called blogging (okay, so it's not new, it's new to me!), I am growing rather addicted to it. Who knew talking about nothing could be so much fun!

Okay, since I am involved in the fantasy hockey league called ECHL, and I am the general manager of the Atlanta Thrashers in this league, I have added a photo for all my GM friends--it's also living proof that global warming is a myth! Who knew Atlanta had snow!!!
Toronto is leading the Canadiens 2-1 after two, and I'm quite tickled about that...I'm not a fan of the Montreal Canadiens. I'm not a fan of the Leafs, either, but they are easier to stomach than the Habs.
My friend discovered tonight that one of his dear friends from his past died of a heart attack quite suddenly yesterday. Sympathies to him and all who knew his friend! May we never forget our mortality and how precious this life really is.
In Nova Scotia, we are beginning rumblings of a provincial election...here we go again. Maybe this time, the voters will get it right. Stay tuned.
The following link I found amusing...animals can be so much like people at times:

Flues, Hockey, and all the Fixings

Seeing as I have all this free time on my hands, I figured I'd notch another entry. I am recovering from the flu...like anyone needs to know that, but whatever, there it is in print. That's all we'll mention about the night from Hades.

The NHL trade deadline is fast upon us. I hope that Alexei Kovalev finds a new home...even though I am a Penguins fan, the sight of that deadbeat drifting around out there drives me nuts. Ovechkin is proof a Russian can play with heart and flair and consistent...Kovalev has talent and sweet hands...why he doesn't use them is beyond me.

Some interesting things in the news...not the least, Iran's supposed ability to launch a long-range rocket. Something tells me something will break there sooner rather than later. There's a lot of increasing tension there...how far will it go before someone does something rather stupid and start something?

Hockey tournaments all around this weekend...hopefully my body will recover sufficiently for me to go out and enjoy the minor hockey here in the Valley. This level is much more enjoyable than the pro level these days. The NHL is really watered down. Watching these kids compete is the purest form of sport right now...even though the shootout is evilly incorporated into it.

Have a great weekend, folks! I hope to post sometime in the next few days...help spread the word of my blog!

My first ever Blog!

Greetings one and all!

I've decided to try my hand at blogging, seeing as I don't keep up with the modern trends. I want to dedicate this blog to Rick, House, KP, Agnosticator, Cliff, the fishes, and all others at http://www.overanything.com/. Check it out...it can be a great read and there's always lots to discuss on OA's Zonkboard! Everything from religion to sports can be found there.

So I find myself just finishing digging out of a snowbank this evening...we got hit with a ton of snow yesterday and last night. It amazes me how lacking Nova Scotia's snow removal is. The sidewalks are still clogged. But my driveway is clear. Go figure.

It's been a harsh winter this year, with more snow than we know what to do with. From January 1, its been hard for the snow removal companies to keep up. Half the province has blown its snow removal budget. Hopefully there are reserves, or no one is going anywhere in the next big winter blast.

We're in the stretch run for the NHL trade deadline...there should be lots of rumors. Pass any you may have along!

That's all for now, folks! Stay tuned for semi-regular updates as the days roll on.
